The e-POS system is tied directly into the Virgin Web site and has the same look and feel. It also does credit checks, generates contracts and generates mobile phone programming instructions.

“Virgin wants to share as much as possible with its customers rather than hiding the contract behind the scenes and making it difficult to read. So we actually put the contract in the customers’ face, more than with some other companies,” Heap said.

He added that Enabil was able to take VMC from requirements definition to implementation as a national [post-paid] carrier in six months.

Most mobile virtual network operators — of which Virgin is among the most successful — use a pre-paid billing model. Heap said it is more difficult to build an infrastructure for post-paid. “But with the likes of Virgin doing it, and with the revenue from post-paid customers being obviously higher, it is compelling and I would like to think that would be the trend,” he said.
