According to RHK’s “Telecom OS: Service Assurance Forecast,” despite a short-term drop in spending, the North American market for service assurance software will reach $3 billion in 2001 and will rise to $5.3 billion in 2004. Analysts found fault and service management software (FSM) brings in one third of all market revenue and has the potential to reach $1 billion by the end of the year and $1.7 billion by the end of 2004. RHK sees the big spenders on FSM software to be IXCs, ILECs, cable operators, and wireless operators. Senior analyst Patrick Kelly says the market is poised to accept new entrants to fill the gaps in incumbent suppliers’ offerings. “With the rapid pace of technology advancements embedded in newly deployed equipment,” says Kelly, “service providers are searching for OSS systems that allow them to differentiate services and at the same time effectively manage a multi-vendor, multi-technology network.”
