Microsoft Ads Get Under Apple’s Skin

It looks like Microsoft finally has gained some traction in the world of television advertising against rival Apple.

Microsoft COO Kevin Turner says Apple’s legal department recently contacted his company’s lawyers, asking the software giant to pull its ads that suggest Macs are too expensive. Those are the ads where someone goes to Best Buy or some other big-box chain, is given $1,000, and walks out with a new PC and some cash left over.

In its call to Microsoft, Apple said it had recently lowered its prices. The Redmond, Wash.-based company’s response: "We're just going to keep running them and running them and running them," Turner said.

Apple has held the advertising edge for some time with its “I’m a Mac and I’m a PC” commercials. Last year, Microsoft failed miserably with a humorless campaign featuring Jerry Seinfeld, which was pulled from the airwaves after a short time.
