At the OSP Expo in Baltimore, JDSU has announced additional features for its T-BERD/MTS-4000 Multiple Services Test Platform. They include advanced test and maintenance functionality for copper-based networks and triple-play services. “Service providers worldwide are seeking ways to arm their field service teams with test solutions that enable a quicker return on investment. The T-BERD/MTS-4000 provides this in a way no other tester does...” said Dave Holly, senior vice president in JDSU’s Communications Test and Measurement business segment. “The T-BERD/MTS-4000 also elevates testers to a new level by offering new features that accelerate the reduction of mean time to repair and operational costs in addition to training costs.” New features include the ability to test higher bit-rate triple play services up to 30 MHz (VDSL); triple-play service testing including IPTV and VoIP measurements from DSL access interfaces or a standard Ethernet port; VDSL and ADSL testing features using an Infineon Technologies chipset; and a licensed option for Dr. DSL diagnostic solutions from Aware, Inc. The T-BERD/MTS-4000 also offers a full optical test solution set combining the functionality of an OTDR, PON meter, video inspection scope, laser source/power meter, and VFL into one platform, further reducing the overall amount of equipment technicians need to carry into the field. The company says the T-BERD/MTS-4000 provides a large, seven-inch display with an optional touch-screen and intuitive graphical user interface. There are also versatile and user-friendly functions such as automated scripting capability and data reporting, a Web browser for Internet access, remote control access allowing remote assistance, 1 GB extended memory, and extended battery life using smart Lithium ion cells.
