Telcordia Boosts Next-Generation Service Assurance

Telcordia has unveiled a test and analysis system designed to reduce the cost of supporting advanced broadband services. It’s also supposed to assure a high quality customer experience.

The Telcordia Test Expert automates the process of service testing. The company says it accurately identifies the precise problem so that it can be resolved quickly. Financial benefits to communications service providers are said to be significant. A typical Tier 1 carrier can realize as much as $100 million in savings annually, according to Telcordia.

“With the financial reality of today’s economic situation comes the need to ensure that new services are introduced seamlessly and cost effectively in order to protect and grow new revenue streams,” said Zach Gilstein, vice president, Network Assurance Solutions, Telcordia. “Add to that the increased complexity of these new services and the expertise required to provision them, and much more is at stake both in terms of operational efficiency and delivering a quality customer experience.”

Telcordia says the Test Expert helps CSPs:

• lower OPEX by automating and increasing the accuracy of field service testing, resulting in rapid identification and resolution of problems;
• shorten service outages, which in turn helps reduce customer churn;
• and accelerate time to market for new offerings with effective field service testing.

Telcordia Test Expert incorporates a system that analyzes failure types, frequency and cost; and mines historical performance and alarm data to pinpoint the root causes of intermittent faults, even after the original fault conditions have cleared. Using service and circuit information from the inventory system and advanced analysis scenarios, Test Expert enables CSPs to find and address the most costly faults quickly and efficiently, said the company. Moreover, using the flexible Test Expert platform, CSPs can leverage the library of test scenarios provided by Telcordia as well as create their own.
