Softswitch and media gateway provider Veraz Networks and Apertio, a provider of core IMS technologies, have collaborated on a joint solution designed to simplify the integration of applications for fixed and mobile service providers. They have deployed the product within an IMS reference model at Amdocs’ interoperability laboratories.
The solution incorporates Apertio’s consolidated subscriber network database, the Apertio One-HSS, with Veraz’s ControlSwitch-USC and is working with Amdocs’ 3GPP-compliant revenue, customer and service management products.
In addition to making IMS integration with back office systems easier, the combination is designed to enable existing service providers to offer a unified fixed-mobile IMS network that includes Veraz’s ControlSwitch-USC and Apertio’s One-HLR (home location register) or other HLRs.
“We are creating and end-to-end IMS solution that specifically address the problems of migration of existing networks towards IMS and the new applications,” said Francesca Puggioni, head of corporate business development at Veraz. “We want to make it easy for service providers to full advantage of IMS.” The ControlSwitch handles core IMS session control and application interaction management and the One-HSS acts as a key element for IMS mobility. They communicate through the Diameter Cx interface, a standard authentication, authorization and accounting protocol used in IMS.
Amdocs’ IMS reference model demonstrates enhanced real-time charging and provisioning across fixed, mobile, and converged environments. Amdocs also will be participating in the upcoming IMS Forum Interoperability plugfest at the University of New Hampshire’s Interoperability Lab. This marks the first time that OSS/BSS vendors have been included in the technology event.
Kanad Das, senior product line manager of IMS for Veraz, said the ControlSwitch USC contains a service broker that acts as an orchestration point in the core network for all services and that without having to change the data model, adaptations can be made to the Apertio database to make it look like either an HLR or and HSS, then Amdocs adds the provisioning of subscribers, services and the integration of billing.
