Following its acquisition last week of United Kingdom-based Axiom Systems, Finland’s Comptel Corp. announced from the Billing & OSS World Conference & Expo in Chicago that Bahamas Telecommunications Co. (BTC) has selected it to supply mediation, provisioning and activation solutions. These solutions will replace existing third-party solutions and help BTC meet the growing popularity of GSM services in the Bahamas. BTC is the incumbent operator in the Bahamas and like many operators in the region, serves both the local population and the strong financial and tourism industries in the islands. Comptel has been used by BTC since 2002 for service mediation, provisioning and activation for TDMA and CDMA, and will now replace solutions currently supporting the migration to GSM. Despite the leisurely pace of vacationers, Nickola Dawkins, CIO at BTC Bahamas, said: "We have a very demanding customer base, who expect the highest standard of service on an international scale. BTC must be able to deliver services fast and reliably, so we expect an excellent time-to-market and reliable delivery from our suppliers. Having worked with Comptel since 2002, we knew that their Comptel Dynamic OSS solutions would be able to meet our strict criteria." Solutions Comptel provides BTC include the Comptel Provisioning and Activation Solution, which automates service fulfillment processes and the Comptel Convergent Mediation Solution, which allows usage from multiple sources to be collected and forwarded to billing and other systems.
