Telcordia Secures Largest Contract to Date for Network Engineer
A tier-one operator in North America has selected Telcordia's planning and engineering solution, Network Engineer, to support all of its geospatial planning and engineering projects, in a multi-million dollar deal that is the largest ever for the solution. The solution will replace existing point products, but will allow the operator to migrate data from them. Telcordia Network Engineer is a geospatial network management system that automates network planning, design, documentation and maintenance. The tier-one operator will be the first customer to take advantage of the Network Engineer Field Assistant module that helps to improve data accuracy by allowing the mobile workforce to perform electronic work orders in the field.
FTS Launches Leap BCE Broadband Edition
FTS announced the launch of Leap Business Control Engine (Leap BCE) Broadband Edition. Leap BCE Broadband Edition can offer unprecedented quota-management services such as usage-quota per application (e.g. quota for P2P traffic or for video); usage-quotas that ignore certain services (e.g. operator-branded-gaming is not counted) and on- and off-peak plans.New functionality will allow customers to manage their bandwidth usage on demand by monitoring quotas and costs accruing on their account as well as allowing the purchase of extra quotas. Pre-integrated web self-care (WSC) allows the customers to monitor their usage throughout the month, set alerts and notifications, and decide in advance how an account should behave when a quota is depleted.
Operax and Orca Interactive Integrate Technologies, Bringing QoS to IPTV
Operax and Orca Interactive announced that they will integrate their offerings to provide a solution designed to allow operators to manage service expansions while ensuring Quality of Service (QoS) for advanced video and IPTV services. Operax provides pre-IMS and IMS-compliant, dynamic resource and admission control solutions to operators worldwide, allowing them to guarantee end-to-end QoS for any IP session. These will be combined with Orca Interactive‘s IPTV middleware. Optimizing network capacity, the Orca RiGHTv will ensure that subscribers are constantly met with first-rate video offerings for high definition television and video-on-demand (VOD). The new solution will enable operators to deploy new applications and services without reconfiguring their network infrastructure. The new solution, operable in both pre-IMS and IMS environments, will also help operators manage QoS in single-service IPTV deployments as well as across multiple blended services such as IPTV, VoIP, games and broadband.
Agilent Technologies Deploys Data Capture and Analysis Solution for Mobile Broadband
Agilent Technologies Inc. announced that it is deploying a new data capture, warehousing and reporting solution that handles the huge volumes of transaction detail records (TDRs) generated by new mobile broadband services such as e-mail, Web browsing and gaming. Agilent is installing the system on the network of one of largest mobile operators in the United States. Agilent has partnered exclusively with Teradata to develop a joint solution that can correlate the massive amounts of OSS/BSS data associated with next-generation mobile networks. The solution can process more than 2 billion TDRs a day in near real time and enables operators to move beyondbstatistical analysis on network performance and to exploit TDR data, combined with BSS information, to provide consolidated reports on the unique experience of specific customers. Agilent also introduced the first application built on this platform - a reporting application that enables operators to evaluate the performance and popularity of specific handsets over time. It allows operators to determine whether a handset is properly configured, downloads data successfully, connects to the network without a struggle, and is actually the handset type specified by the customer contract. These reports can help operators protect revenues by identifying handsets that prevent customers from using high-value services.

Syniverse Wins Saudi Telecom Anti-Fraud Contract
Syniverse Technologies announced today that Saudi Telecom Company (STC) will implement its advanced roaming fraud protection almost a year ahead of the GSM Association’s (GSMA) October 2008 deadline for member companies.STC will deploy the Syniverse DataNet solution, developed in conformance with the GSMA’s Near Real-Time Roaming Data Exchange (NRTRDE) initiative, to ensure data records that track subscriber roaming activity are exchanged more rapidly between home and visited operators. Replacing the existing, outmoded High Usage Reports (HUR) system with the NRTRDE standard reduces data record exchange time from 36 to 4 hours, enabling operators to spot fraudulent activity much more rapidly and reduce potential fraud losses by up to an estimated 90 percent. The NRTRDE standard was developed by the GSMA to effectively combat the growing threat of International Revenue Share Fraud. With NRTRDE, the visited (roaming) network will be required to forward call data records to the subscriber’s home operator within four hours of the call end time, closing the roaming fraud window that currently is open on operator networks that use HUR. If the visited operator is unable to get this information to the home operator in time, the visited operator will be liable for any fraud associated with those calls.
Sigma Systems Propels The Release Of OSS/J Standard
Sigma Systems announced its participation in the launch of the OSS/J Order Management API specification through its contribution to an expert group at the TeleManagement Forum (TMF). The OSS/J initiative was founded in 2000 to develop a set of J2EE, open, interface standards for the telecommunications industry, including integration of BSS and OSS. In May 2006, the OSS/J initiative partnered with the TMF to better address the concerns of NGOSS implementation stakeholders by providing open standard APIs based on the NGOSS framework. The new order management API standardizes how an order capture system (billing or CRM) communicates with an OSS service management system, such as Sigma Systems' Service Management Platform (SMP) 4.0, to handle product, service or work orders provisioned across a CSP's service delivery network. Sigma Systems is one of the leading authors of this API and the selected OSS vendor who provided the API's reference implementation.
